It is a building in Art Nouveau style inaugurated in 1909 as the Luis Mier y Terán Casino Theater. It has two facades, one facing the Calle de 5 de Mayo and the other towards Independencia Avenue, with three doors on the corner. It has a sumptuous French-style lobby, with a white marble staircase and in the hall with Empire-style boxes there are seats for 636 spectators. After its stage as a casino, it received the name of Jesús Carranza and was a theatrical stage, of boxing and film combats. In the 1930s he was baptized with the name of the well-known oaxaqueño musician Macedonio Alcalá, author of the waltz God never dies, the musical symbol of Oaxaca. Since a remodeling carried out in the 1990s, it is just a cultural scenario.
