A total of 1,073 sites from around the world have now been inscribed on the World Heritage List, of which 832 are cultural sites, 206 are natural sites and 35 are mixed sites. Under the heading “Cultural Heritage”, 187 cities or historic centres considered to be of exceptional value are listed.
Mexico is one of the 167 States that have so far acceded to the World Heritage Convention.
Mexico is the fourth country with the highest number of cities inscribed on the Heritage List: it currently has ten cities, only five fewer than Italy and Spain (15) and two fewer than France (12).
