Don Pío Barrán Zoo Museum

In the middle of the last century, in Tlacotalpan there was a picturesque character called Don Pío Barrán. He was a fisherman, but there was something that made him different from the others, his love of taming crocodiles.

Pio would catch the crocodiles and keep them outside his house in makeshift pools, bringing the total to six crocodiles.

His fascination with collecting stopped not only with crocodiles, but also with antiques, rare artifacts and other animals.

Don Pio’s legacy is exhibited in what is known locally as the “Mini Zoo”, a must on your visit to Tlacotalpan.
