Parish of San Bernardino de Siena

This temple and monastery was built by the Franciscan missionaries in the 16th century, but the present church was built in 1535 approximately, as the exact date of its construction is unknown. Its patron saint, St. Bernardine of Siena, died in Aquila (Italy) on May 20, 1444 and was canonized six years after his death. In 1535 this site was dedicated to the Italian saint and the church became one of the main temples built during the Spanish conquest.

Inside you can see several gilded side altarpieces, all of which belong to different periods and styles. The most important work of art in this temple is the main altarpiece which stands out for its wealth of reliefs, polychrome statues and paintings.
